RM dominate USMC
Can't really say I am surprised at this. The RM have likely had a considerable edge over our Marines for a long time, being a much smaller force able to focus in on their abilities more efficiently.

There is an apocryphal story that a US Marine asked a Royal Marine what the "RM" on his epaulette stood for, to which the Bootneck replied, "Real Marines."

1966 I was serving in 40 Cdo RM in Singapore, just after the end of 'Confrontation' ... 'we' were enjoying a weekend at the Brittania Club swimming and was aware of about 20 - 30 men entering the club and from their accents were clearly Americans and USMC. They were on R & R from Vietnam - six of them were in wheelchairs having suffered various wounds.
Suffice to say we introduced them to the finer points of what Singapore had to offer, swapping our methods of Jungle patrolling with theirs it was obvious that full-on helo assaults were the dominate actions there. |
