11th Hussars officers forage cap c.1950-53
A recent purchase, 11th Hussars Junior officers forage cap made by Herbert Johnson with royal warrant BY APPOINTMENT HATTERS TO HM THE KING, for King George VI before his demise in February 1952.
It is named on the leather cap band to ALLENBY, there were two Allenby's listed as officers in the 11th Hussars, father and son, the 2nd Viscount who served in the 1930's and his son, the 3rd Viscount who joined the regiment in 1951. I assume it was the son whose cap this formerly was. It has plan brass ball buttons and the officers frosted gilt badge.

Hi Jerry,
That is superb! My late uncle did his National Service in the Cherrypickers with said Viscount. He mentioned that - I think tongue in cheek - the mess had so many titled officers that mere 'The Honourable' were looked down upon. Mark |

Fabulous cap,I bet the field officers cap would look stunning.
The badge interests me,its the non void version which was also made in anodised but replaced by a void version. Does the Officers version exist with the voids ? |

thank you Eric, Mark, Mike & Trubia, I was very pleased to get and it is my xmas present to me.
I cannot answer your questions on voided badges Mike, I bought the cap without being up on the badges but could see it was a good officers gilt badge.

Very nice cap; back when quality materials and construction were still to be expected.

Can I ask you something? I have been searching in the web about this type of peaked caps...sometimes I see in scarlet colour...others looks like a darker red colour...almost maroon...What is the correct colour for hussars?
