Default City of London - Bullion Badge ID, PLease

I'd be very grateful for any assistance forum members might be able to offer in IDing this City of London bullion badge:

CoL Bullion 002.jpgCoL Bullion 004.jpg

It measures approximately 56mm x 41mm (not sure if that qualifies as cap badge size), has the City of London motto around the garter (Domine Dirige Nos), and bears a remarkable similarity to the cap badge being worn by former Lord Mayor of London, Sir Edward E. Cooper, in the photo below:

Cooper 1 001.jpgCooper 2 001.jpg

Sir Edward was Lord Mayor of London in 1920, and was an enthusiastic City of London National Guardsman. He joined the Corps in 1914 and went on to become Hon. Commander of 'A' Coy, 1st Battalion.

I am not suggesting that my badge and the badge Sir Edward is wearing are the same, but it does have me thinking whether or not mine is military as opposed to purely civic.

With thanks,

Peter

Default Bullion Badge London ??????????????????????????????????

Hi Peter, I have a bullion badge which is in some ways a similar item to your badge See Photo.
I have been told it is a Bisley Shooting Badge, and yet it has the Cross of St George which I normally associate with London. The badge is in smashing condition with the date 1906 above the shield. On the back is printed the makers Name & Address C.Rook & co, 4 Falcon st London.e.c.

Nice little badge, Andy - thanks for posting it.

The only thing I can really add is that the absence of the 'Sword of St. Paul' in the top-left quarter of your badge precludes it from being linked to the City of London.

Nice to see it though, mate.

Cheers,

Peter

Default City of London

Whilst I cannot help with regard to the badge in the initial thread I can't help myself but comment on those in the last thread.

The CoL shield, top in photo, is similar to that worn by City of London Police Traffic Wardens, and the lower badge looks similar to the City of London Special Constabulary Officers' collar badges.

For anyone interested in CoLP insignia I woul recommend dave Dean's website
http://citypolice.tripod.com/cap_badges.htm

Neither of the above badges feature there though. His TW badge is the Corporation's badge issued after the wardens left the police 'family'.

Stephen.

Not quite correct. The Traffic Warden's badge as shown in Dave Dean's collection is that worn by the City of London Police Traffic Wardens immediately before the TW Service was disbanded. Way back in the 1960's, when the TW Service was first formed, they did for a short time wear a small cloth badge consisting of the City shield (cross & sword). This was replaced by the badge on Dave Dean's site.

Dave.

Thought I'd give this query another bash (thanks to those who have contributed already).

Just wondering if anyone might be able to add to anything further?

Regards to all,

Peter.

I was recently fortunate enough to acquire a couple of badges which appear to match the cap badge in the opening post:

CoL 1.jpgCoL 2.jpg

Dimensions of smaller badges: H = 35mm x W = 28mm

At first I thought they were collar badges, but closer examination of the photo of Sir Edward E. Cooper, reveals what looks like these badges being worn on the shoulder straps:

Cooper.jpg

Any thoughts, gents?

With thanks,

Peter

That's nifty, Griff

So are/were these badges exclusively Lord Mayoral (if that is the correct phrase), or are they perhaps CLNGV-related, or other?

Apart from the obvious fact that they are being worn on a military uniform, I can't see these badges being non-military. If they were purely Corporation of London (now rebranded 'City of London Corporation') surely they would not bear the K/C.
