Middlesex WM cap badge

Hi all,

A recent addition - The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) WM forage cap badge, Ludlow marked. This is with copper lugs and is standard size.

I have several Gaunt marked silver plate badges with silver lugs in my Officers badge album. These badges I believe were worn 1946-1958 by Sergeants and Warrant Officers of the 1st Battalion. They have a P for Silver Plate in two different positions on the these. This is the first all WM non-Gaunt badge I have seen.

Is this also a Sergeants and Warrant Officer's badge?

According to Gaylor it was tho' he doesn't mention manufacturer and doesn't he.just refer to white metal?

Only one I have is manufacturer fitted to a dress cap, hard to say if buttons are gilt or "new" brass, unadorned black leather peak, I think it has a black mohair band.

All the ones attributed to the 1st Batt WO and Sgts I have seen have been silver plate.

Gaylor does indeed just note WM but although it is still a great reference book for its simplicity and lay out some of the information was as to the best of his knowledge at the time and may not be supported by War Office and photographic evidence etc. It has a number of errors. In this case it could well be that they wore WM and SP badges.

Just checked the cap, a plated badge. the highlights of a polished finish, w/e lugs which are hidden by the still stitched down lining. Moss Bros, pre-metric size label.
Not a lot of help I'm afraid & atrocious photos.

Good to see the badge in situ thanks Leigh. I can live with it as a WO and Sgts WM badge but the appearance of it relative to the silver plate versions would be a poor cousin.
