Something Different
Dave
I am the old cogger with the blue ballcap on. Yes it is a nice old truck, 1967 GMC. I don't know what is more expensive picking up the odd old badge or getting various parts for the truck. Oh well you can't take your money with you and as I tell my kids, if I keep my bagdes and truck in good shape, they will be in good shape when I am gone. That is if they sell them. My oldest has taken an interest in the badges and he tells me he will keep them in the family. That is all I can hope for. Jack |

Another passion for me is hunting... I've grown into it as I started with my father at about age 8... over the years the progression has been from a .410 shotgun and chickens (you're a kid.. your dad gives you a full choked 410 which doesn't put much shot in the air and thinks he's doing you a favor because there is little recoil... not much of a chance to hit anything as it's an experts gun at that game.... so in the very long run when you finally figure it out you find you really can shoot.... maybe he wasn't that stupid after all).... to a 12 gauge shotgun for ducks and geese... to a .303 for deer... and then onwards and upwards for moose and elk.... and now it's almost 50 years later and looking back I can't believe all the good adventures I've been on and all the good friends I've met.... and I'm still pushing as hard as I can as I know the day is getting closer to when the guns will be hung up and badges will be the preferred hobby ( very much gentler on the body)..... but not yet... Jim

Not to down play what 8th Foot accomplished as it is quite a feat catching a fish on a fly and another bringing it in but attached is the King Salmon my brother caught in Alaska in 2008. Mine was just a few pounds lighter. I kid him a lot as I actually hooked it for him and he reeled it in.

x5 Intermewed Peregrine Tiercel "Hamish", from "PJ" a famous BFC Tiercel & a Ray Turner Falcon. Not as good as his Grandad...... but "PJ" didnt really start his bag until his 8th season. So there is hope for Hamish yet (he is bloody hard work!). My English Pointer (Bronwyn) is from Scotland and from a well respected KC Falcon/Gun line...... she has just completed her first season and has performed well..... she is still young on the point and has a tendancy to rush when she feels the bird is about to go..... she has to learn to hold it for longer. She has a great nose and will point far downwind..... so I am learning that a long flush is more likley with her (so is my Falcon ). She is a lovley bitch, brilliant with kids and an absolute "nutcase" as a family pet also.

I try very hard not to but I still get attracted to anything to do with Steam Locos, I have only had this interest for the last 60 years so I may still grow out of it.

Well Frenchie, One of them was a goodie! I'll be getting my Triumph out shortly, (94 Sprint 900, bought new). I also have to find time to start restoring my '59 BSA A10, also bought new. My others are a '69 Norton Commando Fastback, and '74 Ducati 750 GT. Cheers, DJ

Hi Griff.
That's a fantastic pasttime, and a great outdoor life. I've got a couple of mates who are falconers, but I never seem find the time to have a day out with them. A few years ago in the terminal at Abu Dhabi aiport, I saw an Arab in all his white finery, head dress, flowing white robes etc, with a hooded Peregrine on his arm. A wonderful site, though spoilt somewhat, as he was standing admiring an Aston Marten that was on show. Have a great weekend in the field. Regards Brian |
