Default Question re RE WW2 cap badges

Good morning, newbie here.
Can anyone clarify for me the different Royal Engineers cap badges worn during WW2.
What was the difference between officers and other ranks?
Bakelite?, Bi-metal?, Bronze?.
Slide fitting, or lug fitting?
Were different badges worn for peaked caps, berets or side (forage) caps?
What else?

Any help much appreciated:
Jack

RE officers wore bronze badges with blades.

The ORs wore brass ones with king's crown and GVI cypher on sliders.

These were superseded by brown Bakelite with blades. Both designs were worn concurrently.

Post war the design changed to a bimetal OR's badge on a slider.
Officers would then have worn silver and gilt lugged badges on No1 dress hats.

It was a huge Corps so you may find variations.

Hello Jack, welcome to the forum. In the whole RE officers wore mainly GILT badges with blades or lugs in dress uniform. BRONZE badges again with blades or lugs were worn in "working dress". Officers also had BULLION badges to wear on the side hat, beret etc which were sew on. Of course, in theory any badge may have been worn at any time by a officer.
OR's would wear a gilding metal badge with either slider or lugs in the peaked cap, side hat or beret and Bakelite/plastic badge which had blades on the beret or side hat. There were also Silver, white metal, chromed badges.
Again badges were worn as suited units etc.
Silver & Gilt and gilding metal/white metal badges only come into service around 1948
I hope this gives you some insight to RE badges worn in WW2
Badges are for example only.

Sometimes collar badges were worn as cap badges. Officers wore an unofficial collar badge in gilt with silver scroll on a black or very dark blue badge shaped backing.
