I don't believe the 29th (ever-sworded) Worcestershire Regt ever wore a red backing to their badge. I have seen this kind of thing before though where a collector wanted to make his ensemble of OSD badges stand out by backing them all with scarlet felt. They looked pretty but it was misleading to the un-enlightened.
