Default RN Officer's badge..period for this style?

Hi all,
anyone able to give an approximate date for use of this particular badge?
80mm wide x 63mm high, all well padded, with very heavily padded crown of about 15mm deep.
Cheers !
Steve

Default Officers badges

Firstly I'm not a collector or by any means an expert.
The crown would put it between 1901 and 1953,
Now as for size, I believe that could vary depending on how accurate the taylor wished to be.
From 1856 to 1891 it was about 76·2mm wide and had increased to 85·7mm by 1938, during WWII all metal badges were worn.
The badge details are from Badges & Insignia of the British Armed Forces, The Royal Navy by Commander W. E. May

There are far more knowledgably people here who in time I'm sure will give a more detailed answer.
Hope it' some help.
Regards
WF

Purely on gut instinct that style of embroidery, with the heavy detail of the crown, inclines me to a pre-WW1 period badge.

Thanks for the input ,so far.........
am looking for a fairly 'early' pattern of this badge ,to put with my RND badges here.
Am told this came from the UK ,some time ago, with a large batch/bundle of early period items up to, & including, the 1930's.
So am looking to verify the approx period ,more exactly, as being an 'acceptable' & 'representative' pattern only, for the early WW1 period ??
These were worn ,as the 'standard' type of badge on the Army style Service Cap(with & without the black hat band), by RND Officers, especially prior to 1916ish.
Have pics of various period patterns, in use, of similar styles, but not one that matches with this one, as yet !
Cheers !
Steve
