Sweetheart, Boer War Trench or Souvenir ?
Came across this nice brass badge in a drawer. A pick, shovel, and rope with South Africa engraved on the shovel blade. No makers mark and a stout pin to the reverse.
Not sure if it is a Boer war item, a sweetheart brooch or a regular souvenir item. Any ideas ? HKButtonman |

I saw a number of these before I eventually bought one, and also have never been sure exactly what it is. I am interested in Boer POW coin jewellery and this is obviously a well made commercial production. Very nice whatever it is.
The brass German-made Boer leaders' penknives are another attractive commercial souvenir. |

They are just brooches that were sold across the Rand throughout the first quarter of the twentieth century, they do vary in terms of quality.
