Newsletter issues are mostly identical. Docufiles have upto 5 versions. It is a contribution by an Australian collector. The button is very high quality and cost almost twice as much as ordinary officer's regimental buttons (Firmin's 1934: Officer's dead or indented gilt: 6/- per dozen. Bright gilt, plated or bronzed buttons: 3/6 per dozen) I agree: it needs confirmation. best regards, |

No.21, mess dress, crossed axes. I have one of these & until it's identified I have put it with my pre-1947 Indian Army section as some of the pioneer regiments had crossed axes on their tunic buttons.

I found a note that a button named Jersey Motor Transport was sold on e-bay in 2012. It was white metal, had script letters J.M.T., a plain background and no rim. B/M was Wm. Dowler & Sons Ltd, Birmm. An "inspector" button is for uniformed staff typically found in transport companies. JMT was launched in 1923 and purchased by the Jersey Railway and Tramway company in 1928. It makes sense to use the JR&T coat of arms buttons. The railway disappeared in 1937. I have searched lots of public transport sites today. All come up with JMT being Jersey Motor Transport. I have not searched abroad. I think it is very hard to prove "never been worn". I am holding on to Jersey Motor Transport, tentative dates 1923-1928. It will be difficult to prove, so I am adding 'to be confirmed'. Thank you all for your contributions. |

You may want to consider Johannesburg Municipal Tramways or Johannesburg Municipal Transport for your JMT button. I have examples in white metal as you describe, Script letters JMT with back marks, 1. Wm Dowler & Sons Ltd Birmingham 2. * Dowler * Birmingham 3. Special Quality 4. Metal Art Pretoria So I suspect the seller on Ebay may have got the original ID wrong and the JMT button is Johannesburg Municipal Tramways (In existence from 1906 to 1961). Cannot say when the style of button was adopted but definitely worn to 1961 and maybe slightly beyond. Regards Steven Last edited by Milmed; 11-05-19 at 10:11 AM. Reason: Added extra information |

I concur as the button with script letters JMT is indeed Johannesburg Municipal Transport. Confirmation is in the IUCC documentation. The club had quite a few prominent South African members. It means The e-bay seller got it wrong in 2012 and so did I. The JMT inspector button goes to South Africa as well. Thank you and best regards, |
