Default Would anyone be able to work out a name...

From the following number on the inside of an RAF mess dress jacket to a Flight lieutenant (2 gold stripes on cuff?)
Number is C48994 and then 109 at the far right
Thanks in advance
QE2 buttons on the jacket

Jon,

in most privately purchased tailored uniforms the owner's name is usually on a tailor's label either inside the inside breast pocket or at the back inside top.

These labels usually show the name, the date of manufacture and the tailor's pattern code. These details are usually written in indelible ink.

Are your numbers printed as part of a store code or are they written in by hand?

It is quite unusual to have hand written numbers and not a name.

Photos show labels from RAF and Army uniforms and from a dinner jacket.

Modern RAF Mess Dress is a special measure issued item, therefore the numbers may only correspond to an RAF order number.

Of course an image of the label may help.

Have you considered that the first number may be the Offrs RAF number?

Alan,
in my original thread mate i was alluding to the fact that the first number may be his RAF Reggy number.
Due to the RAF link i was thinking possibly RAF Regiment, but of course in 21 SAS there were ex RAF types who served, so maybe he was ex 21.
Regard
Jon

I missed the reference. You could trawl through back copies of the RAF list but it would be very dull.

There is no record of that number commissioning into the RAF in the London Gazette. Removing the C prefix produces some results for WW2.

It is possibly the tailor's client number for his records.
