Looking for some help in this imposable task! any chance of an ID for this hopeless case. It has a Dia of 26mm.

Looks like a Victorian crown, and a rose in the centre?
Possibly Royal Garter 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pence.

.... has the look of a livery or hunt button? I can make out "AND" at the top. There appears to be a small Fluer-de-lys in the middle shape. The top has the look of an Earls coronet or similar?

The shape in the centre is something to do with 'female arms' livery button,the site I found the attached button doesn't seem to exist anymore, but a Google search has a few buttons with this shape saying female arms, no idea? Bit same shape.

Good spot Chris.... a Duchess or Lady. Its probably the family motto in a belt or ribbon around the female Arms.

Assuming its a metal detector find? If so whereabouts? might give a clue?

3Dg= what you have picked up is a cross with the four arms of equal length. I took loads of pics in different light settings to see different details. What I posted was the best all around shot.

GriffMJ= I some how dont see the female arms in that shape. It was a eyes only find on a river bank as when I picked it up I thought it was a coin. found in Carlow area Ireland.

.... the main shield (Escutcheon) has "inescutcheon" another small shield. So the field of the main shield may only have that small Fleur-de-lys (possibly a mark of cadence for the 6th child?) in the base? To me it has the look of a daughter of a noble's livery button? I would guess that the small shield is the family shield proper?

* The small shield (inescutcheon) is an English variant to a 16C French design, and has triangular winglets at the top. Its popular use was in the 19th Century. My Mothers family Coat of Arms uses this shape.


Its an interesting button, that's for sure. It might be in the Livery Button books?
