Pictou / Seaforth Highlanders brass badge?
Attached is an image of a badge I recently acquired. It is a brass cap badge for either the Pictou or Seaforth Highlanders? I was aware that there were brass economy badges made for the 48th Highlanders and Essex Scottish, but I had never seen a brass badge for this pattern. The reverse has two copper wire type lugs.
Any more information out there about this badge? |

Interesting Badge Bill, Sorry I can not offer any further information on this as I have never seen or heard of this before.

I had a brass Pictou photo posted on an earlier thread here.
My only reason for believing it is a Pictou is Mazeas note on the Pictou entry in Insignes Canadiens saying "G.O. 57/1923 c.", with the "c" meaning brass. I think the die is different from yours -- yours looks like the usual w.m. type only struck in brass. Both mine and yours have two lugs. Is it generally agreed two lugs make it Canadian, while three make it British? |

Thanks for the reference David, I had missed your post.
The dies do appear to be different. The badge in my post is the same as the white metal one in your post. I wonder if one is the British economy badge and the other struck from a Canadian die? From what Alan said, there is no fast rule on the 3 lug vs 2 lug badges. I have not found any Canadian badges with three lugs, but there are British badges with 2 lugs. |
