PAG "new" Beret badge
Hi Guys
Saw this on a local auction site today. When did these plastic badges come about, seen the normal SA Infantry badge (POSTED A FEW WEEKS AGO) but never one of the Volunteer Units ? Brian |

Hi Brian,
I picked up one of these about a year ago but I don't know when they were introduced. Doesn't the CTH also have a plastic type badge? Iain

Hi Brian, First City also has a plastic badge. It looks much nicer than the PAG. Regards Andrew

The plastic badges look rather tatty though the FC ones do look better than the PAG one. I don't know why they didn't go for embroidered badges rather. I'm sure they could get someone in Pakistan to make some that were just as cheap as the plastic ones but looked a bit better.

Guys
I personally think we have reached an all time low with these. And yes Pakistan are turning out some amazing modern badges. Brian |

Hi Brian, I do have 1 in my collection. This is for other ranks. The rest wear metal badges. Regards Andrew

Thanks Andrew
First one I have seen like that, actually you are 100 % this one looks ok, just cannot believe we have resorted to these, do you know who makes them? Brian |

These badges make a very good case for limiting the scope of your collection. It would be interesting to know what savings are effected by using plastic instead of metal. It is also interesting to speculate what badges will look like in the future if cost of production is the major driver.

I guess we will all be collecting "old" badges in the future then. Regards Andrew

Well, upon seeing those, I am now more convinced than ever before to just stick to the pre union!
