Default Fakes again

I had no idea until recently how many badges were reproduced especially CEF even common ones like the 17th, 22nd etc these repro's are going for 9-10 dollars. do these people need 10 dollars that bad or are they just pedlars. Selleng is in their blood ,it has nothing to do with a hobby, it's greed, and pedlars are the greediest of all. Am I glad I'm finished with this hobby (collecting Militaria). Ray

hi paul
it would be a shame to lose anybody from the forum, but there are certain legal issues when people are accused in a public forum. what we can do is show a pic of a genuine badge and a pic or link to a sus badge for comparison. this helps to educate us forumites and protect us and our collecting friends from buying the crap.
i have put up pics of fake badges and links to the ebay site, but i wont accuse anyone of selling them deliberately.
what we have done on other forums is notify the forum members of a outright dud, then we can contact the seller and advise them of our beliefs. its up to them to act and if they dont, they then get ridiculed on the forum.
sorry, now im waffling on

Well we better be VERY sure that the badge is a repro or re-strike. If you start pointing fingers, the seller finds out and it turns out to be a real badge, it is this forum which will be rideculed. Not to stir the pot but I have seen people on this forum make a mistake or two re: re-strike and original.

Cheers, Michael

Hi Paul,

I did read the listing. Personally I don't care who sells what. I stick to the buyer beware belief. A few others on the forum seem to be baying for blood. I am just noting that we don't want to look like idiots.

It might be an idea to ban the posting of items that you see on EBay, it's only helping the sellers by providing free publicity and as with everything else on the internet you never really know who's doing the posting.

YOU CAN stick your heads in the sand and count yourselfs out while your investments become worthless before your eyes OR you can wake up and see the light a do something to protect not only your self but the whole community. Take a good look at the first page of WW1 CANADA and note his junk over 20 items mixed in with several legitimate badges . The listing first off is for genuine items only and are illegally listed but for the newer buyer they all look the same and he refuses to mark his badges as repros . I have a huge collection and please excuse me a huge passion for the hobby I despise fakes and those who make them and those who are not with me are against me sell your badges and get out of the hobby protecting it is part of calling yourself a collector IMO

I don't want to start any bad feelings about this repro bit but I heard a lot about it and now I am seeing them listed as repro's hundreds of them, I wouldn't know a repro if I saw one and I know now how I could be taken, These things are silver plated aged & everything. I didn't believe all the hype at first, but now I can see why a knowledgeable collector would be cheesed off.
How many of these sellers are not listing them as fakes, amazing really,.
And before I close Thank you Moderator. I can appreciate that.
