what type of fastner?

Seeing the Bill's thread on "Clutch Pin Fastners" I thought I would show this one and see what the purpose was for it.

The collar in question is a basic 64th battalion collar made by Inglis the big difference is in that it was never lugged. Instead of lugs it has a single post in the center which is hollow in the middle. The first one I bought of these I did think it odd but have found another since. These are the only ones I have seen like this and if anyone knows what they are used for if not a collar I would like to hear about it. I am uncertain if there is a clip or pin that is supposed to be on it and it remains a mystery for me. Looking forward to your views.

Interesting Stephan. It looks like the kind of fastener you might see on antique shirt studd, cufflink or lapel pin. I've never seen it on a collar badge though.

It is the same function used with the bachelor buttons a very odd collar set up and must be unique.

Thanks for your veiws, could be a cufflink I suppose. I have never seen this setup on anything else other then the 64th Battalion collars. The lack of any lugs and the style of the post on the back lead me to think there is supposed to be some sort of clip to attach it. May be something made for the regimental kit shop? will have to keep my eyes open for more.

No way to big for cuff links it had a pushin fastener same as the old bach buttons me thinks. Funny it did not catch on must have been to expensive

It was to bad the backing was missing from both examples. If it was indeed used as a collar I can see why it did not catch on, some of those bachelor buttons were a bugger to get apart and these things would have to be discarded if they changed battalions or uniforms if they were easly damaged. Would be nice to find a tunic with these attached.

This fastener would have been a bit of a pain from what I can see. The badge would have the ability to rotate around, and could end up cock-eyed on the collar. Maybe that was the reason this type of fastener isn't found on other badges?
