Default 3 MG Coy 1 Canadian Division

There has been a dearth of postings about CEF badges on the forum. Hope this start some strings.
A white metal badge to the 3rd Machine Gun Company 1st Canadian Division. These were probably worn until the re-organization of the Machine Gun companies in early 1918, but the date of introduction has not been clearly established.

Badge story. This has to be one of my best acquistions. By chance I went into an antique store and looked around. Asked the owner about badges, and he indicated a cabinet. Over I went and there was this badge and some MG Corps generic pattern badges. Asked the price, $5 each. That was about 20 years ago, but a bargain even then.

Great story... great find... I think these types of deals give the most satisfaction and they also keep a collector on the hunt. Thanks for sharing

That's a real beauty! A lovely badge and well done sniffing it out.

I agree with Jim, it's finding things unexpectedly that is most enjoyable about this hobby. I know that the items I've stumbled across stick out much more in my mind than things I've bought at shows or from dealers. Sadly, this seems to happen less and less frequently since the advent of eb*y and the like...

Cheers,

Adam

There where at the outset of the war 19 machinegun companies of which only
4 had an official type badge. the rest using the generic crossed machinegun
type insignia. your badge had matching collars which are extremely rare and I think only a few sets where ever made for the officers.
hope this helps
