Tweed, the red line was showing how the bottom of the crown on a good badge should have a curved bottom. Fakes are often straight across the bottom of the crown.

Thank you Terry,
Yes good that is a fast way of spotting a fake die! And I used it myself earlier today it stands out clearly.
Infact I will try and find it and share it here.
Kind regards Chay

Here note the whole thing is seriously lacking in detail especially the obverse

Hi Chay,

There are two very common fake Machine Gun Corps cap badges. The one with the flat base to the scroll and the one with the flaw in the crown. I have made several posts on these two badges, so you should be able to find them with ease.

On to the one that you have in the opening post. I noticed this variant a short while back and I am of the firm belief that it is a fake of fairly recent manufacture, possibly from an original, but worn die. Notice the flash and the poor alignment of the cutting, especially around the guns. The fact that it has lugs is a dead give away and I have never seen it with a shank (slider).

There are several variants of this type of cap badge, with some being of fairly poor manufacturing so I wouldn't always dismiss a badge because it isn't the smartest looking badge. When they where being manufactured there where more urgent requirements and I am sure it was a case of speed over beauty.

Keep a close eye on this badge, because once they start fitting a shank to it and with the passage of a few years, they might just start creeping into collections.

All the best,

Andrew

It isn't just an opinion, but years of research.

You asked for thoughts, but in future I will keep them to myself

I want someone to be able to back up what they say especially with your claims.

Show me a photo of anther one of these or the original die manufactured badge as you say it would be believable to me. I always deal in actual visual evidence!

Sorry, I can't help you. I know nothing about Machine Gun Corps badges.

I haven't been on this forum for some time now and within two days of returning I realise why. I will keep my research to myself from now on.

Don't ever call me a victim again as I am far from it and do not call me a troll as I can assure you that I am not.

I’m not I keep saying having a go at you.? I just want some evidence to back up what you say and it’s become awkward so just forget it if it’s too much trouble.
