Default Royal Marines cap badge - Silver?

I would be grateful if anyone could enlighten me as to this badge. It’s the correct size for a RM cap badge. I thought from the RM museum website it could be a Colour Sergeant/Sergeant badge 1923 - 1953 but now I’m not sure. The badge is silver plated not gilt which has thrown me. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Richard

Thanks for the response Jerry. It makes sense, a RM Police badge as it’s silver coloured although I have only ever seen examples as a laurel and globe without the crown.

Richard

The badge you have shown is not for the Royal Marine Police, they only wore the globe & laurel part of the badge, they did not wear the lion and crown. There are a lot of spurious white metal/chrome/silver plated RM badges around and I do not believe any were officially sanctioned or worn. I have King's crown white metal/nickel plated RM cap badges, a white metal Queen's crown cap badge, a chromed RMA badge, a silver plated brooched RMLI cap badge and also a King's crown RM helmet plate in white metal/nickel plate. I have never seen evidence of them being worn officially and keep them as curios or possible sweetheart badges in some instances.

There is a white metal King's crown helmet plate listed by one of the better dealers as a Royal Marine Police (?) HP with an asking price of £225, I would love that to be the case as I have one of these already but I do not believe the listing and just consider mine to be a curio but happy to be proven wrong.

Paddy,

Thanks for the information, I’ll put the badge in the bottom of my junk pile particularly as there is a lug/loop missing. There is feint evidence of the silver wearing through to brass on one of the sides and crown. Someone must have been busy with a home plating kit maybe.
