Civil Defence Corps lapel badges
Hi All,
I've bought a few badges recently which included a couple of civil defence corps ones. One of them is much brighter than the other and is stamped MWM ltd on the back. The darker one is stamped Fattorini & sons ltd. I'm just wondering if anyone can help date these and is the colour just down to different manufacturers or is it the age? Thanks a lot, Michael |

Hi Michael
I believe this pattern was introduced when the Civil Defence Corps was reformed in 1949. Rob |

Both badges are for the post-war Civil Defence Corps and carry a King's crown so 1949-1953ish. There is no obvious meaning in the colour variations just the manufacturer's interpretation of the design.
The badge, with both buttonhole and brooch fittings was, according to a contemporary recruiting leaflet, issued after volunteers had completed their preliminary training. The same design in cloth was worn on the breast pocket and the beret. Jon |
