Default LDV/Home Guard armbands with letters

Do any members have examples of this style of armband with letters which seems to have originated in the Manchester area. The come both with and without the crown above LDV

I am putting together an article for the Journal of the Military Heraldry Society and would like to track down as many variations as possible.

Scans would be great but a note of which letters appear on them would also be helpful.

Many thanks in advance

Jon

84 views and no responses?

Further research has revealed that the armbands relate to the whole of Lancashire and not just Manchester and the sequence seems to run from A in the north of the county to Z in the south.

Further details sought.

Has anyone got a history/histories of the Lancashire HG that might shed light on this?

Jon

No replies so far but to move the query along herewith a photo of one of the LDV armbands being worn.

Having talked to other LDV/HG collectors I have discovered that several of the armbands have written inside them the original owner's National Registration (NR) number which included a four letter code identifying the area where the owner lived.

The list below shows the letters on the armbands followed by the four letter NR code and then the area that issued the code. So the photo shows an LDV member from the Blackpool area.

If anyone has other examples I'd be pleased to know.

Jon

GB - NXNH - Ulverston
GB -NUEF - Dalton-in Furness
GH – NFAS - Burnley
GJ – NZIE - Fylde
GK - NCCA – Blackpool
GV – NVAL - Heywood
GW - NNAA - Rochdale
