Default LONDON VOLUNTEER CORPS

Hi all
I've checked the gallery's and the thread's but couldn't find pictures of a real London Volunteer Corps badge. There's front and back of a fake, but nothing to see any details etc of an original.

Thanks in advance if you can post one.

Cheers

Simon.

Hi Simon,
Not sure if this is what you are wanting.
This badge measures 35mm x 28mm approx.
Cheers, Tinto

Default City of London Volunteer Corps

Simon,

I'm assuming, as did Tinto, that you mean the City of London Volunteer Corps?

What Tinto has posted is certainly genuine, but it is a collar badge. I've attached a picture of a genuine cap badge, which is about 50mm x 36mm (but then so are the fakes).

Here is a picture of a fake, too, to highlight the differences - which are tiny. The two I always look for are the number of horizontal sections in the wing on the helmet, and the spines between the dragon's (?) back and it's tail. If you handle them, you'll see that the fake is a much deeper strike, with the real ones slightly flatter.

Not a lot of difference from the rear; all are on loops / lugs, typically 2/3rds of the way up, and about 25-30mm apart.

Both these badges appear in my K&K VTC Album, but I do have a habit of abbreviating the names, which probably didn't help your search. Apologies!

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Best regards,

Tim

Hope this helps

Hi both, thank you for the input; and yes that's the badge. I came across one, but haven't a clue on it's validity. Tough to tell from the pics.

I have a feeling it isn't, as the lugs are right on the very edge of the badge. The only badge I've seen as original and have lugs placed there is the Manchester Pal's badge.

One other question. Was this outfit operational and active in the Great war.

Cheers

Simon.
