Default JR Gaunt Badges

Hello,

A question for the forum.

I believe some of the Gaunt pattern books are in the Birmingham Library, but do these cover WWII? Are other Gaunt records available? Is there a JRG archivist to answer enquiries?

Thank you for any help, Keith

Keith, There are some Gaunt archives in Birmingham Library but they are mostly related to their business deals - neverthelesss useful to sort out dates and locations.
Their Pattern books etc are in the B'ham Museums & Art Gallery (BMAG for short). Like all museums (including the one I work in) they have external stores where much material is stored. There have been people who complain that museums 'hide away' their 'goodies'. This is far from the truth - there are millions of objects and archives which rotate slowly on display.
However, anyone can write to the relevant depository and ask for an appointment to see whatever you want to see - which will almost certainly be granted.

I had a very useful session there BUT - you are right about details from the 2nd WW onwards - I couldn't find any.
The closest you can get are the war(2nd)time ledgers of the Ministry of Supplies at the National Archives which detail how many badges for such and such a unit by whichever manufacturer.
