Jon, Ancestry have a Royal Naval Division casualty database contact someone on forum who has a membership and they may be able to tell you more.

Also, write a nice letter to the Fleet Air Arm Museum regarding your man and see what happens

PLY 18749 Pte John Carroll Died of Wounds on 3/9/18. He embarked for France on 26/3/18, his mother was Elizabeth Carroll of 4 Weir View, Lucan Co Dublin. He was born 28/4/1898 at Lucan in Co Dublin.

Not much i'm afraid but it's a little more than you already had.

Yep thats him- thanks for that information.

but if you notice it says (on the site) that he was born in 1898, and yet it says he died at the age of 18 in 1918? The 1901 census has his date of birth at around 1898 too (yet his date of birth is 1900 in the 1911 census).

so what would you say the story is here?
