Default Clan Badge Or ????

Anyone care to hazard a guess at whether this is just a clan badge for the Sutherland Clan or does it relate to a military unit ??

thanks in advance

It's a bonnet badge of the 5th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders TF, worn up to c1920.

Thank you, I thought that badge lacked the buckle on the circlet ?

The badge you refer to is the pattern worn by the post-1920 4th/5th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, 1920-1946.

Again, thank you, couldn't find it in K & K - assume it's in Bloomer (which I don't have !)

It’s in my copy of KK vol 1. Ref KK1753. Also Bloomers as you say, ref 202.

Nice badge and if available I’d be interested.

Nice photo, even better that it has a family link. Interesting that the man bottom right has different hobnail patterns on each of his boots.

My father is standing on the left my uncle on the ground next to hobnails.
Uncle was a piper who joined up as a regular and was in Shanghai when war broke out. He the joined the Paras and took part in D Day. Father served through the war in RAMC and was also bass drummer in the unit pipe band.
