Shall you also be having the bronze examples worn by members of the regiment, when it was part of the Transvaal Volunteer Force?

I wasn't aware of their existence Frank

Was that for the Natal Rebellion?

As far as I was aware, the Transvaal Volunteer period ILH only wore the white metal cap and collars. I am always prepared to learn and be proved wrong. It is the only way to grow in knowledge . Regards Andrew

I don't know, Iain, I would doubt that, not enough has been written about this period, I've always wondered if they were a crossover into the ACF until matters were standardised and the smaller badge came into wear.

Andrew, Frank,

I know little about the Transvaal Volunteer Corps but Harry Klein touches on in in his book "Light Horse Cavalcade;" it seems from what he says, that the different regiments within the Corps kept their own identities.

If they all wore the same badge would there not be plenty around?

Just suggesting.

regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
I am talking about the ILH and certainly not a generic TVF badge, which I would assume did not actually exist.
Regards Frank

Hi Iain and Frank, there was no "Transvaal Volunteers" badge. All of the different regiments had their own badges. Many of these badges are very hard to come by as they had the habit of "burn or bury" if a badge was discontinued. Some Commanding Officers were very strict with this and so for instance the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles badges come to light very seldomly. Have a great weekend. Andrew

Well, I 've certainly never heard of such a badge, but, as I said in post seventeen, I am talking about the Imperial Light Horse.

Hi Iain, I thought that I would share my Boer War ILH collection seen as you started this thread. Most people don't really look at all the Boer War variations, but I enjoy titles, so I do. Have a great evening. Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I didn't realise there so many variations but strictly speaking they are slouch hat badges or were some worn as titles?

regards, Iain

Thanks Iain, they are titles, but worn as slouch hat badges. I have seen odd Boer War photos where they had shoulder titles, but mainly worn on slouch hats. Regards Andrew

and a couple more additions, not as rare as the St Blaize Rifles but rare all the same!

The large anodised badge worn by RSMs, Officers and Bandsmen and the BiM collars
