Default What did he do ( CSM 3rd Flint Home Guard )

This morning I acquired 2 items to CSM J.L. Roberts of the 3rd Flint Home Guard.

The first item is a Western Command Home Guard certificate for Gallantry dated 12th Juanuary1944.

The second item is a presentation barometer/thermometer.Engraved on a small round brass plaque at the bottom of the piece it says

" Presented to CSM Len Roberts by the Officers,NCO`s and men of D Coy (Holywell ) 3,Flint Home Guard as a mark of their appreciation and esteem Dec 1944"

The question is what did CSM Roberts do to get the Gallantry certificate.

Any help appreciated.

P.B.
