German infantry assault badge - genuine?

Hi I bought a job lot of militaria recently and amongst it was a german badge which i think i have identified as an infantry assault badge. Can anyone please tell if it is a fake or genuine item. Have been looking for hours on google etc and just cant make my mind up. thanks in advance

I am not really a Nazi era badge collector, but from the front shot the badge looks repro, I could not see the reverse, but I think it's a repro. Sorry!

yes the front looks over shiny compared to the back (not sure why photo is so small) but it like quite a few of the other items has been cleaned there are traces of polish on it so it does make it hard to tell. Its not my thing so have been trying to get it sold but dont want to sell it as genuine if its fake and likewise sell it cheap if its original. Have posted it on a famous internet auction site but it keeps getting removed but always generates quite a few bids before it gets pulled.

IMHO DUD............sorry. The pin looks wrong to me and the metal looks too thin, all the ones I've handled have been fairly chunky, even the late war zinc finished stuff, as it was worn everyday, and most modern copies wouldn't take 5 secs on a battlefield.

Although this IAB was made in this stamped version the catch is the red flag here with the light weight fold over type. It is a DUD sorry

hi thanks guys - not too bothered as it was a bonus in the box anyway was after the other items and this was there as well. Will throw it in a drawer and then in 50 or 60 years someone else can have this dilema!!!

As a late reply: the badge looks as if if it's trying to emulate the BH Mayer design; that being said these are amongst the hardest to distinguish from the very good fakes of this design/'pattern'.

The pictures really don't help and it's difficult to determine the usual traits, such as the acorn detailing, bayonet rivets and the breast feathers on the eagle.

Such catches were used by such makers as RSS and JFS for a couple that spring to mind, and even if this was broken as it looks it could perhaps be I would still agree it's 'iffy' all things considered - even accounting for the pic's.

However, i'll reserve a conclusion until better quality images can perhaps be taken.

Impossible to tell from the quality of these photos.

Here are some of an early Meyer in tombak with a silver plate finish being one of the first issued.

... and this one is by Juncker in nickle silver and probably one of the most sought after IAB's by collectors. Also very early issue.

nice badges for sure. The badge in question even though represented with poor pics is a dud as the catch is the thin fold over associated with the post war souval fakes
