Ww2 Italian Submarine Badge?

This came to me with my WW2 British and a few Canadian badges. I am told that it translates as Submarine in Italian. What can you tell me about it?
Should I be ringing Bosleys or waiting for a 99p free listing day on ebay!

I must stress that all Italian submarine badges are now being faked. See Steve's submarine badge page.

Yes, this is an italian navy submarines crews badge (OR and NCO).
It was worn on the left sleeve.
It was instituted Jan. 16th 1918.

This kind of badge was still in use after WW2.

May I post it to our italian forum to better identify it ?

One I picked up at a surplus shop in Peterborough (Peterborough has a large post WWII Italian community) during the late 90's. Apparently it was found in a car in one of the city's scrapyards.

Hi Leigh, hope all is well, just to let you know, the provenance story of your Italian badge 'rings right' and is plausible.

Firstly, Peterborough is not far from Bedford which has a large amount of people of Italian descent as you probably already know.

Secondly, it was quite common and quite an old fashioned Italian thing for people to keep various medals / pin various badges in the car eg: Saint Christophers / football club medals etc...

Thanks, I would imagine the badge came from one of the yards in the Fengate area of P'boro'. From what I recall a large number of people came across from Italy to work in the London Brick Yards at Fletton, many of them from the same villages, adding to the previous, post WWII numbers.
The Italians were when I worked in P'boro', and presumably still are a noticeable and vibrant community in P'boro', staging a lot of social functions at "The Fleet" community centre.
