Help with Plumes & Hackles
Hi Folks
Just opened an Ammunition Box in the loft and re-discovered my plumes and hackles, I was quite surprised how many I had, most must go back to my blind obsessive hoarding days. Some seem particularly old others more modern, some are possibly not even military and others Colonial rather than British.......now that I seem to have more time on my hands than expected my intention is to do an album which will hopefully be critically examined and commented on by the learned membership. It might then also act as a useful resource for others. One question though.......how to best measure these things? Do you measure just the feather/horsehair bit and the loop/spike separately or do you measure the whole thing from top to bottom or maybe just take a photo showing a ruler by its side? Any help would greatly appreciated. Cheers Sean |

Sean,
I was thinking of doing an album myself but probably have about twenty hackles and a few plumes. A photo alongside a ruler would be best I think. Tim

Problem with most of mine Tim is that I have no idea what they are, apart from the Regular Army examples the rest are a bit of a mystery so I'm hoping for lots of suggestions once I post the pics in the next week or so.
