Default SCC badge = Sea Cadet?

Hi there,

Would need your lights please on this pic, taken by a London photographer, on 22 Jan 1944 (stamp on the back), showing what I suspect to be an identified sea cadet, right before he volunteered to RN on 26 Jan 1944, at the age of 17 (I have his service records). He then served until 1947 as a RN air mechanics.

This young Bert was from Lambeth, county of London.

As I am totally green on sea cadets topic, would anyone know please what this “SCC” arm badge, above the anchor stands for? I guess maybe a specific Sea Cadet section? Also this young man wears a chevron below this anchor. Does this mean that Sea Scouts applied the same practice as done in RN (good conduct badge)?

Note to the administrators: not sure I am in the right section, but wasn’t sure where to post this.

Thanks & Best Regards,

JD

I have the badge in the opening post (Leading Cadet) and the Petty Officer Cadet version (shown below). I was never sure of the dates worn so thank you for posting this with dates.

The badge in the opening post is no longer worn as cadets now wear SEA CADET CORPS curved titles on both sleeves with Leading Cadets wearing the plain anchor without SCC. Previous to this they wore a straight SEA CADET CORPS title on the left cuff only. Both are shown below. The good conduct badge is awarded for one years undetected crime for cadets

Again thanks,

Andrew

An old (early 1980's) picture showing the straight SEA CADET CORPS title on the left cuff. Still had seven creases in our bell bottoms as the new style uniform was very slow in coming to our unit.

Looking good! I deduce from this that we probably must have quite close millesimes. Mine is 1964, and I wore the french navy red pompon in 1987-88.

Cheers,

JD

I am sure that I have a brass S.C.C. shoulder title somewhere and have always wondered who wore it. Does anyone know if the Sea Cadet Corps ever wore brass shoulder titles?

Unfortunately we never had a Marine Cadet detachment in our unit which was T.S. Dreadnought (Hertford & Ware). I think the nearest to us was T.S. Amethyst (Welwyn Garden City) if my memory is correct.

Anyway, I have taken a quick picture of the the badge in the opening post. Not the best shot, but I am sure it will do.
