I would expect the badge to be a copy. I'm not familiar with 'Made in England' as a mark, though just 'England' marked badges are copies, and the slider shape is similar. Saying that, without the marked slider, the badge would look fine. Regards, Paul.

I have never seen this mark, would it be possible to name the source of this badge and when you acquired it? Rob |

To my knowledge, that is one of the notorious Made in England fakes with the unique slider, which was not always marked.

A tapered slider, sometimes marked ‘ENGLAND’, is an indicator of a ‘restrike’ badge produced by Morrison in the early 1970s.

Thank you everyone for your replies and observations. I bought the badge at least 15/20 years ago along with many others from the military antique market at Camden Passge Islington or from Petticoat Lane street market .As a new and novice collector I had no idea then that there were fakes and repros about and assumed all I bought were genuine badges-it is now with the benefit of yourselves and the B & C MBF I am going through my collection gradually and trying to find out those badges that are suspect and should be disposed of.
Grateful for all of your comments and help. |
