Was there a sweetheart brooch for the Sherwood Foresters?
Hi All,
I've looked through countless images, but I've never found a sweetheart brooch for the Sherwood Foresters (or Notts & Derby). Have I missed it? Did they ever produce one? Many thanks, + Anthony

I would have thought there would be sweetheart brooches for any regiment
that served in ww1 or ww2. Gordon

P.B. As an aside great to see the membership numbers slowly creeping up and a lot of new members adding to posts/threads.

Hi team, interesting thread. Is this what we are talking about and I would think that yes they were made post WW2 as the pin on this looks more modern.

I'd be very surprised if there was not a brooch to every regiment and Corps . Thye were definitely still on sale in NAAFIs in 1958 as I bought one to Th eNorth Staffords at Whittington Barracks then of the same type as the Sherwood Foresters , a small badge on a white disc.

Sweetheart badges are still availablre today. Some PRIs, museum shops stock them and jewellers will have bespoke ones made for you in precious metals and stones. The biggest sellers in the Royal Anglian museum when I volunteered there were lapel badges that could equally be called sweetheart brooches depending on who was wearing it.

Generally the badges seem to be titled differently now. So-called lapel badges are often made up in an enameled form that is very reminiscent of the old sweetheart brooches and recent advances in mock and real enameling has made them much cheaper too. Put "military lapel badges" into a search engine such as google and a variety of different badges, old and modern can be found for just about every regiment (e.g. ecsnaith.com and ). "Old Comrades Badges" also gets some results.
For the more finely made and thus expensive sweetheart brooches, made specifically for women and ranging in construction from Sterling Silver, to Silver and enameled, Gold, and Gold and enameled, are available from a number of specialist jewellers such as Bickertons and Garrards, as just two that are well known. Anthony, if you go to Bosley's home page they have a link to a Regimental Brooches shop ( run by his wife I think ) - there are three examples to the Sherwoods listed, although one appears to have been sold. Cheers Tim
