Default Operation Savannah pin

Hi,
I found this pin amoungst a friends service insignia and he cannot remember what it was for. Ihave seen the same sign on an Operation Savannah reunion flag (see pic). This guy was in Angola during 1975-76, so was wondering whether this silver pin was issued to the staff taking part in the operation or issued later as part of a reunion. Maybe someone else has seen one of these and can shed more light on it.

Regards
Steven

Steven

The flag in the picture definately states Savannah, picture was taken post 1994 as the Army flag is the new SANDF one.

An interesting piece possibly handed out at a reunion ceremony?

Col Breytenbach would be able to answer this question.

Hi Brian
Thanks for the reply. The badge is silver with a clutch pin attachment. The chap who this belonged to was in the SA Navy and did service on the Cunene river amoungst other 'unofficial' SADF work offshore of Angola in the 70's.
I stand corrected but I think he was a WOII at the time.
