Thanks for your thoughts Neil.

My concerns for both badges centre around the sliders. The Coldstream slider is very broad with a pronounced taper unlike any other slider I have come across. The Hampshire slider is parallel sided with an angular cut off. Also the brazing is pretty rough.

All further thoughts welcome.

Looks like an unmarked F.N. (Frederick Narborough) badge to me.

Thanks for that Nozzer, much appreciated. I will count that as a result.

Any thoughts out there on the Hampshire badge?

The R. Hants is fine. I am not so sure about the slider on the CG. It looks like a type seen on some fakes; the FN slider is a bit different, although I could be wrong.

I think both are original examples with some age to them.

Thanks CB and Frank.

The position so far is Royal Hampshire 3 votes for Good, Coldstream Guards 3 votes for Good 1 vote for Doubtful.

Following CB's comment above I took a look at Tonyb's album on Narborough sliders and must say I am no further forward, some look similar some totally different.

Are there any other examples of this Coldstream type out there?

All comments welcome.

Eric

Taken with a flash just now, so not the best quality.

A very nice badge Andrew, thanks for posting.

Can we come at this from a different direction? Does anyone have an example of a fake badge with my type of slider?

Default Morrison tapered sliders

Try a Forum search for ‘Morrison’ to see examples of badges with tapered sliders.
A retired RAOC Major J A Morrison acquired some manufacturer’s dies and produced ‘restruck’ cap badges in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Many badges had tapered sliders, some possibly marked at the time or subsequently ‘ENGLAND’. He was based at Thurnby in Leicestershire and if memory serves, advertised in Soldier magazine.

For what it's worth I don't think the CG badge has a Morrison's slider.

Having never heard of a Morrison slider I had to act on Tim's suggestion to do a search and read up. Whilst doing so i came across a post dated 27/3/14 by Leonard D that says Morrisons sliders are 45mm in length, width at shoulder 6.5mm and width above rounded end 5mm with the corresponding dimensions for an FN slider as Length 41mm, Width shoulder 7mm, rounded end 5mm. If these dimensions are still accepted as valid then it would indicate that my CG is indeed an unmarked FN example albeit measured with a ruler.

Any further comments?

Eric
