Default Cameronian Pipers Badge

I have been looking to add a Cameronian Pipers badge to my collection and feel it has to have been widely faked from the number I see in all price rangers on eBay! How can I tell a good one? What should I expect to pay for one?

Thanks for any help or insight!

Terry

Thought I'd give this a nudge and hope someone can advise. Sure hate to get stung on a bad one.

Thanks,

Terry

Default cameronians pipers badge

Terry,

I have two pipers badges, the mullet and title was 1st Btn worn up to 1921,
the larger one was one worn by the 2nd Btn.

I am happy these are originals as I have had them for over fifty years, the 1st Btn has a very long slider, while the larger 2nd Btn below has loops.

The usual things with buying badges apply, a good strike, darkened loops and if on ebay someone who will refund your hard earned cash.

Regards Rob

I would look for a badge with 3 loops, N-E-W. The loops should also be long and quite sturdy looking. Not footed.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Rob
I don't actually know much about which battalion pipers wore what what badge, but your 'larger' 2nd Batt piper badge just looks like the standard regimental Sgts badge to me, which was a larger version of the standard badge?
Cheers,
Alex

Default cameronians pipers badge

Alex, you could be right, I bought it as a 2nd Btn pipers badge which it may or may not have been worn by the pipers.

When you read about various units and who wore what the water often becomes very muddy.

Terry, thanks for your comment, I do have a few more Cameronians which are not shown, part of a project for future work.

Alex,

My very sincere thanks, as that should help me avoid wasting my money!!!

Just FYI, but I finally picked up a lovely Transvaal badge which made my day!!! I added it to my album if you want to see it.
