2015 Boer War/ 1906 era acquisitions.

Hi Guys

Here are a few of my acquisitions this year.

A long overdue Diamond Fields Field Artillery badge .
A Boer War period Canadian badge (not too sure who wore these, it came from the midlands of Natal) lugs bent flat .
A nice brass Transvaal Staats Artillery badge (sadly de-lugged)
A "so-called" Bechuanaland Rifles shoulder title if Owens book is to be believed? The lugs on this badge I am sure from the WW1 period...?
The Lumsdens Horse was a chance find on the internet, a rare piece.

Please guys some comments especially regards the BR Title.

Rob thanks for that, how common are these Canadian Vic Helmet Badges?

I visited Paadeberg a few years ago, still lots of stuff lying about but none of it as interesting as what is seen in that picture. The site of the Boer Camp still has steel tent spikes in the ground (nearly drove over one with my car, that would not have been cleaver!) and many flattened very rusty tins and bits of metal lying around, amazing to see after all this time.

The Canadian helmet badges were worn by the Royal Canadian Regiment, they were the first Canadian troops to arrive in arrive in South Africa, on the 30th of November 1899, over one thousand men, who were followed up by a draft of just over another one hundred men in the April of 1900.
You are certainly in the wrong section with this badge as well as the Lumsden's Horse, though, of course, the latter is actually quite rare!

Yes, you are 100% correct just decided to plonk them all together. Very happy to finally have a DFFA in the collection, let a few slip through the fingers in the past, but swapped this out with another fine police badge of the same era with a local Police collector. We both feel it was a fair swap and thats what counts in the end.

The Canadian and Boer Staats Artillery badges came with a load of other mainly "dross", despite the damage felt they were worth the price requested. I have a white metal version of the same Staats Artillery badge so this was also a "new one" for the collection.

What is your oppinion on the BR title?

I don't know very much about Canadian badges but have always admired this one. Can anyone tell me about the QVC badge (same size as the one shown but heavier) with a different die? I have often wondered whether it was also worn to the Boer War.
Second question: was the QVC maple leaf badge with 2 in the centre also a Boer War badge? I know the exact design was worn well into the 20th Century.

And I dont think British Rail ran in South Africa as their tracks are 3 ft 6 inch guage !!

The only Diamond Fields Artillery item I have : a photo of Gnr C Leferve, showing no insignia on the helmet. but collar badge & Gun Layer badge. Buttons & shoulder title are indistinct.
