The Badges of the Manchester Regiment
Hello,
Since joining I have been asked for further photos of some badges and so I thought I would start this thread so that members can see some of my badges and also post photos of their own badges, which I would love to see. I can offer identification, authentification and hopefully further information on the badges you post. To start with I have attached two photos that have been requested. Jeff wanted to see 3 particular badges of the 96th Foot, an Officers Helmet Plate, an Officers Glengarry badge and an other ranks non-voided Glengarry badge. I was also asked to show some Volunteer Badges, but there are so amny. Therefore I have chosen those from my home town the 3rd VB. Probably the hardest to find badges of them all. regards

Manchester Regt
Frank,
Not a lot really. An unusual variant with E/W loops. Someone said it was an early type but I know of no written information on the subject. regards

Hello Simon,
I don't think I've ever seen one before, the brass is a good colour, I take it the loops are brass and you are happy with it? Regards Frank |

Hello Simon,
Many thanks for sharing the pictures - always interesting to see other collectors badges. I personally collect to the county from the right side of the Pennines (that's right as in geographical and correctness ), and therefore have a huge interest in any rose badges. Can you tell me what the rose in the volunteers photo is, and indeed if there's a known correct way for it to be worn? For example, as shown is the "House of York" alignment, upside down from this position would be the "House of Lancaster". Many thanks, Andy C

Bullion badge
Welcome to the Forum Simon,
Many years ago when I lived in York I sold you a WM Manchester Regiment pre-1922 badge when times were tough. Regret selling it but respected that Manchesters were your thing. I bought a broken one and had Dave repair it. Will post a picture as it is a pretty good replacement. Here is my Manchesters bullion that I think dates to 1881-1885. Anything you can tell me about it would be appreciated. You probably told me the dates back then. Great to see some of your badges and to have your knowledge on the Forum. Regards Dean |

Manchesters
Dean,
I am sorry I dont remember that sale, but thankyou anyway. I have had a few white metal cap badges since then, its quite a scarce version. The cap badge you illustrate is one of my favourite badges and was worn on the peaked forage cap by Officers, Warrant Officers and certain other SNCO's such as Drum Major etc. It came in a one piece version and also a 2 piece version. The bottom scroll can be found with "MANCHESTER REGIMENT" and also "THE MANCHESTER REGIMENT". Silver bullion examples are to be foiund for the Volunteers. regards
