Default canadian army cadets 1977--rcac red maple leaf badge ???

hi all,

found this colour film from 1977 about the canadian army cadets.lots of good views of badges etc

however i see they are wearing a red cloth mapel leaf with rCac.being on this side of the "pond" i always assumed this badge was the royal canadian armoured corps .

am i right or wrong? can somebody tell me when it changed.? and could it be mistaken for the armoured corps badge

regards

philip

Hi Philip, the RCAC was to my knowledge always for the cadets. I was one in 1966 and I wore the red maple leaf.It was never for the armoured corps CAC (Canadian Armoured Corps) the title "Royal" being given in 1945.
I have seen photographs of cadets in 1940s wearing the maple leaf.

The armoured corps was supposed to be RCArmdC but RCAC came into use...there is occasionally some confusion with the Army Cadets.

Grrr...ghastly unification uniforms on the CF members, but good to see the battledress still in use by the cadets in '77.

Ok, post-whoring, but noticed the capt. instructor still wearing the CSofC cap badge almost 10 years after the branch was rebranded the CIL and incorporated the Air and Sea elements.

Aged 16 and on the train from Ottawa to Montreal in cadet uniform. I tried to convince the barman that RCAC was for Armoured Corps and that he should serve me the beer I ordered. Turns out he was a tanker in Korea and didn't buy into my story.

I was an army cadet aged 14-15 in Calgary in the 1980's and we were affiliated with and badged for the PPCLI. Curses that I never thought of using that to get a beer!
