Default King's Own Royal Regiment collars

I recently acquired two KORR (Lancaster) collars, the typical lion. One was brass and the other white metal. I have been told that the white metal variation was worn by volunteer units. Is this correct? I was looking for a collar to place with a medal group, and this man was a long serving regular senior NCO, so I am assuming he would have had the brass variety.

Yes they should be the gilding metal version. These were worn from 1894 through to amalgamation in 1959 by ORs and NCOs. ORs of the 1st VB wore white metal lions from 1888 through to becoming a TF battalion in 1908.

Cheers Dean
