Default Pre 1926 KLR Foreign Service Badge.

Arrived today kings Liverpool Regiment pre 1926 foreign service (unofficial) cap badge. Makers marked 11mm gaunt, unlike the two already in my collection this lacks the Gaunt makers plate, also has a reenforced front leg.
Polished and curved to fit cap, great 'character' badge.
Tony.

Being 'unofficial', I am wondering if there is there a story attached to the inception/issue/wearing of this badge? Ashamed to say my knowledge of all things KLR is extremely limited

Sadly he is a lost but not forgotten Tommy. 1/7 King's Liverpool Regiment. Died of Wounds, France 3 July 1918.

Tony, your badge is certainly one of the earlier types (my type 1A slidered) - though not "the" earliest as they had NS loops. What characterises yours is a flaw on the scroll, a Gaunt marked slider, very small forelock and a foreleg strengthener.

I have devised a schemata for these types
Row 1 - my Type 1A all with scroll flaws, the first four have loops (though 2nd and 4th have had loops removed and slider crudely attached). The last four have flaws, and G marked sliders (the middle two ought to move left as they have loops !). All these have G tablets (even the slidered ones) but only the first two have curved tablets and all the rest have retangular tablets

Row 2 my type 1B no scroll flaws, no forelock, none marked apart from the 'pagri' badge. Apologies again because the first one here should be with 1A (loops - and die linked to the 6th along the top row

Row 3 is my type 2 - very different from Type 1, no flaws, large forelock, very characteristic thicker torse and none marked. The first two are looped which suggests this is not merely a chronological development !?
(the photograph is two years old and I think I have more now)

I must admit though yours looks like a Type 1A it does appear to have a thicker torse ????

(By the way Tim, you kindly forwarded me this photograph a while back but I've never been able to zoom in to the cap badge - can you take a close up of it ? thanks)

(Jelly, there is a 'regimental' authorisation for these things but can't find the date at the mo, the collar type was authorised in 1896)
