Default Does anyone know which regiment this cap badge is from? (Photo attached)

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this cap badge. It's shaped like a Royal Engineers Corps cap badge, except with what looks like a "W" in the centre. Any suggestions regarding the date and regiment will be much appreciated.

If this helps, the picture may be of my great-great-grandfather who was part of the Reservist AG Corps Signals and later the Cheshire Regiment (WW1).

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

-Catherine

I think you are mistaking the royal cypher for the letter W. In WWI this would have been George 5th's GvR cypher. if you look at the attached photo and squint your eyes a bit you can hopefully see how the cypher could look like a letter W from a distance.

The date being circa 1910-1936 though others may be able to give exact dates.

Hello Catherine, welcome to the forum, as has been said cap badge is Royal Engineers, can you show a picture of the full photograph, might be able to see anything else that might help date, identify more etc

Thanks Catherine, nice photo, main thing to say is that he would of been in a mounted section ( horses) due in the main to his boots , this type were worn with spurs, and his leather bandolier worn across his chest for carrying his ammunition all typical of a mounted solider.

Hi Gerard, many thanks for the really useful info. I would never have worked this out in a million years. This is really helpful and helps to fill in some of the gaps. Thank you very much!

Kind regards,
Catherine
