As I say though, this badge was bought around 10 years back when John did regular lists, so they have been around a while. At least now we notice when a 'rare' badge pops up regularly on eBay. One had to trust in well known sellers alot more then, as less info and pictures were available. I have always had a doubt in my head about this badge as I have not liked the Lion that looks more like a long tailed wolf. We all live and learn. Trouble is 75% of the time we learn too late! Paul.

Tyneside Scottish
I have a Tyneside Scottish which has the lion inside the tower, the tower halfway up the cross with loops. This is the second pattern.
Also I have a badge similar to Spencers which is a bad strike with loops which look OK, the portcullis is halfway down, but the strike is very bad. I bought it some years ago from Hugh King. |

This is the GWF thread on it with a picture of what I consider a good first pattern badge.
http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/fo...scottish+badge The GWF members date the demi-lion to 1916. http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/fo...scottish+badge Alan Last edited by Alan O; 30-04-08 at 08:07 PM. Reason: add links |

Ref Restrikes etc of Tyneside Scottish Patterns
I am starting to get a little concerned about whether what I have for these battalions are ok or not. I have a WM version of the 1st pattern (item1) which I believe is genuine ; 2nd pattern (item2) HM officers (ok with this); 2nd pattern O/R's brooch pin (item3 - now unsure) - but which I believe is genuine : 4th pattern O/R's brooch pin (item4 - now unsure) - but which I believe is genuine : I have done this in 2 parts.
I was not at all worried about items 1, 2, 3 and 4 before - for 5 & 6, I would appreciate knowing whether to chuck them out or not. Now, after reading some of the articles, apart from item 2, I am not at all sure about the rest. Can you help? Items are in pairs - front and rear and in order 1st patt, OR's - 1F, 1R ; 2nd patt, Off - 2F, 2R; 2nd patt, O/R's - 3F, 3R. 4, 5, 6 are in the next post Last edited by wright241; 11-06-08 at 02:50 AM. David,
at a glance, to me, no.5 is the only really obvious dud here. Bad looking lugs & very badly positioned/affixed. Not right,at all. My own one of these is a very 'similar' strike, etc, that I have not got around to replacing, as yet. Cheers ! Steve Last edited by dragonz18; 12-06-08 at 09:34 AM. |

Have just found a pic of my (suspect) and the lugs on this are way out of skew - as mine was not repaired (plus other aspects) the lug placement and fixing was part of the poor quality faking process. Good luck with the others, David |

Hi David and peter a question for you two. If I remember right the porticullis had to be half-way up (or down) to be OK ?. This one is all the way down.
