Pleased the information was of use to you. It came from Howard Cole's book "Formation Badges of World War 2".

I am having a problem with my scanner, so can not scan the details. If anybody else would be willing to do so, the information on Greek badges is on page 159.

According to this all three Greek Brigades wore the head of Athena on blue. A blue circle for 1st Greek Independent Brigade, a blue diamond for 2nd Greek Independent Brigade and a blue square for 3rd (Greek) Mountain Brigade, known as the "Rimini Brigade".

Only the 1st Brigade is illustrated, but the head does not look like the one that you have posted. I believe that Athena was female, for example.

I suppose that your item could still be a variant for the blue diamond and head of 2nd Greek Independent Brigade?

I had a look, but don't know the badge myself.

I expect that someone will recognise it, and have attached an "improved" pic showing the badge.

Looks like the pre-war army cockade of the Royal Hellenic Army.

Hello all,
I realize that the subject is old but nevertheless let me contribute as I've just came across it

The metal round badge with the head of goddess Athena with the letters "III EOT" (i.e 3rd Elleniki Oreini Taxiarchia - Greek Mountain Brigade) , is shown on this photo at the bottom.
At the back ( not shown) there are two lugs with a pin

Officers and other ranks worn it at the middle of the right side breast pocket of their field tunic (see second pic)
(A close up of the design on the order document of general Freyberg's where he is thanking the 3rd EOT on their way to Italy in 1944)

Regards
Dimitris
