Both badges relate to tours of India by the then Prince of Wales, later king George Vth. The second, 1911/12, badge is for the Delhi Durbar and tour of India.

They are superb badges. I’d only ever seen one of them before and I imagine that they must be quite rare. Is it known what item of dress they were worn upon? They seem an odd shape for headdress.

Either that, or they were issued as a distinguishing badge by those officers, security staff, caterers, bearers, etc. who were employed in the camp. They probably had lesser quality badges for the bearers and sweepers. |
