Belt buckle worn by 69 North Irish Horse on their Royal Signals Stable Belt and dress belt.

And 2 versions of the Mable leaf
First one with 2 holes to be sown onto the uniform
Second one with folding pins back
Third one showing the Mable leaf on 69 NIH Royal Signals Mess Dress Jacket.

Last set for today.
North Irish Horse Shoulder Title.

Also a silver NIH Cap Badge. Picked up for £2.50 at a market stall. It was in bad way, but cleaned up, looks great.

Very nice. One of the big advantages of living over there. Well done on the silver capB. Looks good. Been trying to get hold of one of those for quite a while. I only acquired the bronze OSD version because I was over there at the time.

Billy - yes a collar badge and the fixing can help date it as this single loop fastening was introduced under LC4483 of 01/03/1951.

Assuming it took a few years to switch over to a St. Edward's crown pattern following the 1953 coronation there is a good change that you can be as specific as the early - mid 1950's for this particular item. (This assumes that the practice of using a single loop did not significately pre-date the list of changes introduction date)

I am just re-visiting this old thread, the following might be relevant

When looking at the sealing data of Irish Unit insignia pre 1939 in The National Archives. I noticed the following entries on the N.I.H.

1. Badges Forage Cap with VS, North Irish Horse SPN 8916/1916, date 9/6/1916

the badge was then quickly re-sealed as

2. 8916a/1916 on Badge Forage Cap VS North Irish Horse GM on 30/12/1916

Unfortunately no details on why it was re-sealed . Anyone know if the regiments badges were incorporated into the so called 1916 economy programme by omitting the piercing or whether the slider (VS) had to be re-positioned to strengthen the badge? Either of these might be a cause of the re-sealing.

John

Three questions concerning the NIH large circlet pattern:
Was the large NIH circlet badge (KK1504) worn in the same way as the North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry pattern (KK1393)?
Was it worn through WW1 or had its use ceased by 1914?
Was this pattern also used as the NCO arm badge?
Thanks for any information.
Bill

Do you know the colours of the forage cap used in n. 1 uniform?

I mean that of the NIH during B sqn QOY.

Thanks

Pedro
