Very good question, I have 3 patterns of anodised double headed eagles, non void ,half void and void. The pattern shown in K&K is of the non void variety. If there was a KDG a/a then that would have been it.
The story I have is the following, i say story as far as I'm aware there is no documented evidence to support the story.
It was proposed that the KDG would change to wearing the anodised badge, the first ones made (non void) were produced. But by that time it had been decided that the KDG and Bays would join together, so the first badges went to the new QDG regt instead.
As can be seen from the images, there are clear differences in the 3 badges.

I really don't know the validity of the story. Its one that's done the rounds and a few people mention it. It could be true or total fantasy.

I doubt very much if KDG ever entertained the idea of having the soldiers wear the AA badges that were produced. They kicked up enough fuss when told to wear the 1938 pattern eagle in GM....
But AA badges for KDG were definitely produced... both by Firmin and Dowler...

Excellent, have just checked through my QDG set and found that one I had as a FIRMIN LONDON (fully voided) variation, is in fact one of the KDG examples!

I'm made up . .

Regards all
