Default Queens Bays QC Collar badge query

I know the Bays wore the same collar as the present day QDG. But did they wear it in anodised or was the anodised collar solely worn by the QDG ?

I'm pretty certain the Bays AA collars were on the scene just before amalgamation in 1959, as was the QC AA Cap badge. My guess is they were issued in training because by then AA was the official issue badge material. But like QDG (I was issued an AA QDG badge by the Catterick Training Regt), when the recruits got to regimental duty the AA cap badge was quickly disposed of and replaced by a WM metal cap badge purchased in the PRI. The same probably happened with the Bays in the late 50s. They certainly wore KC Cap badges right up to amalgamation only a few youngsters would have worn the QC cap badge if at all. My suspicion was that the collars were binned on arrival at RD and replaced with metal ones either inherited or bought (residual stock) at the PRI.

If you don't know if you know it already but it might be helpful to get hold of a copy of The Dress Distinctions of the Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards) published in 1960 by Langridge Military Publications.

The author of this series recorded the dress distinctions directly from the regiment and usually notes where and when they were seen. Certainly some of the series I have seen note that AA badges were not worn in some regiments.

Several copies available for sale on abebooks.co.uk

Default Bays/QDG anodised collars

Gents,
for info there are two distinctly different die's for these anodised collar badges. One is quite uniformly flat, the other has a more defined relief, (especially around the crown) with a 'richer' anodising.

Regards all

Bess

Thanks Jon

I have a copy of Brian Cox's work for Langridge and he notes the younger members of the regiment wearing AA and the older GM.

Sounds to me like they were trying to filter them in via the Depot then.
