Default KINGS DRAGOON GUARDS star pattern

One for the Cavalry collectors,
I've started to build on my small Cavalry collection, this is gonna make a dent in my pocket money me thinks.
Having read in previous posts that with the KDG star badge size does matter
I've search old posts but can't find what I'm looking for.
Any comments on this one most welcome.
Thanks Tony.

It is fine. The thing to avoid with these are lugged ones and ones with solid backs. All of the genuine ones I have handled have either 2 brasing holes to the reverse or the large hole as yours does.

Additionally, there is also a variant where the front piece has been brazed around the edge. Howard is aware of this other type and pointed it out to me some years ago - as viewed from the front. Its not easy to see.
Ref the size - a quote from a post by cardiffbloke from years ago which I have kept - "any Star and Garter badge over 49mm in length is almost certain to be fake as is any GM badge with lugs".

The exception is the NCO's star arm badge that was solid backed (cast) and had loops worn 1919-1930 (Linaker & Dine 5.7) 45.1mm high, 38.4mm wide, loops E/W 25mm.

However... lugged ones were used as arm badges... Usually they have locally fixed lugs and vestiges of the slider are still on the badge. I have a lovely collection of self made Star and Garter arm badges :-)
Also the flat backed cast ones were made in India/Egypt in the 30's. KDG had no authorised arm badge and made their own a' la above or had the locals cast them up as in Rockape's post.

CB, can I please ask about flat backed stars with a slider. I have one that is "brass' on the front but white metal on the back. the centre seems to be a seperate piece and there are two little "ends" on the back under the slider. Sorry I put it out to do this post but now cant find it, darn !

Can I please have your opinion on this one.

Regards

Phil.
