Default 9 Gurkha opinions please...

Another round of tidying up the badge table. Rediscovered this 9 Gurkha badge, which I believe is the Indian army version? Opinions as to authenticity?

As the others have said, but the rear looks to have the prongs for hammering into the shields sold to tourists. Caps have lugs, the same badge is worn on the X belt pouch but with screw posts.

It is difficult to say with any of these badges, however quite a few have been turning up recently to various gurkha regts marked 'sterling silver'. I only trust the good old hall mark. The problem I have with this regt is that this pattern badge was worn from 1936-47 by 'other ranks'. The british officers wore a small (22mm high x 19mm wide) version on a cord boss ( 30mm dia) on both forage and dress caps and none on the hat felt gurkha. So who was this made for???. I would not lose any sleep over this one. If you desperately feel the need to have one, they regulary turn up on E bay for about £25. The same 'Authorised seller' usually has plenty of the 1st, 3rd, 4th,5th etc all marked.
Regards
Steve.
